Top Five Things to Look for in a Car Dealership!

by Rebecca Worthlin

Buying a car is monumental! When you think about it it’s the largest thing most people buy besides their home if they’re a home owner. So making sure that you are treated fairly is much more important than most people realize. The car industry is pretty fundamentally confusing (some might say it’s on purpose!) But at San Tan Honda Superstore of Chandler we like to keep things simple. Yes, we sell cars. But we don’t sell cars at all costs or in direct opposition to the buyer’s needs. We sell cars and we satisfy our customers; both aspects of the business are equally important to us here at San Tan!

If you’re not careful you’ll discover first hand that not all dealerships have the same philosophy. A lot of car dealerships don’t really care about the “eventual” satisfaction of the customer as long as they get the papers signed and the prospective customer back on the road in a vehicle; any vehicle. So before you wander into just any car lot…think about a few things that might make your car purchase a little more pleasant.

Here’s the top five things we at San Tan Honda Superstore of Chandler believe consumers should insist upon:

1. Everyone likes nice people and nice salesmen are not only a possibility, but something you should insist upon. Don’t accept being treated like a piece of meat dropped amongst vultures. Salesmen that seem to attack before you’ve even had time to get out of your vehicle and head to the front door of the dealership are not fun to work with; find a dealership that has trained their salespeople to observe the niceties.

2. Choose a dealership with an Internet division! It’s much easier to research current specials and deals at your leisure online. A good dealership will not only have an Internet division with exclusive online specials, but they will always honor the Internet specials upon which you’ve based your purchase!

3. A good dealership will provide salesmen with the necessary training so that they don’t have to resort to “bossing” their clients. Don’t put up with a salesman who continuously makes pointless demands from you. They’re on the job. They are there to help you. If your salesman walks away from you in the showroom with a bossy “wait here”…feel free to walk away from the showroom. A salesman who is continuously bossing you is attempting to set a pattern of obedience that will probably lead to an eventual purchase that you realize later you were pressured to make.

4. Bossy is not so great, but knowledgeable is fantastic. Your chosen dealership should have salesmen on hand that can offer you all sorts of information. They are there for you to access to inform your car purchasing decision. But be careful that you don’t mistake opinion for knowledge. An overly opinionated salesmen can often persuade buyers to make a deal on a car they’ve never even thought about purchasing before stepping onto the lot. Choose a dealership with salesmen who are trained to get you exactly what YOU want, not what they want to sell.

5. And what about honesty? If a dealership is honest you’ll never look back on your “monumental” car purchase with bitterness. Choosing an honest dealership means you will have a clear knowledge of your interest rate and payment information. Choosing an honest dealership means you will actually have the opportunity to take advantage of advertised specials. (If you are immediately told that the “advertised special” is already sold or is temporarily out of stock. Say thank you and walk away to find a dealership that actually honors their own advertising!)

Don’t let a your next car buying experience be tainted by a less than stellar car dealership. It’s your money. Make sure you’re comfortable while you’re spending it! It’s the first step towards enjoying your ownership experience.
