This is not the time for you to channel Heath Ledger’s Joker character. You want to push the emotions aside, as best you can, and make sound, logical decisions.

Revenge is not the answer

That fire is likely burning a hole right through you now, and you are thinking about retaliation. Either a fist to the kisser for the person your wife cheated on you with, or showing her how it feels and sleeping with someone outside of your marriage yourself. Don’t do either. It will only add to the problems you already have.

Find a friend or close family member

This is tough. You did what? With whom? Where did you do it? How long? One detail leads to another and to another. If you have a wife caught cheating, this can be endless and cause you a ton of misery. In many ways it validates all the insecurities you have. Know this: the lie is more about her than you, and that’s the truth.

Get faraway from madding crowd

Once the secret is out you have a wife caught cheating, everyone and their dog is going to offer up some advice. Some of it will be good. Some of it, not so good. It’s easy here for your head to be spinning worse than Linda Blair’s in The Exorcist. Take some time to yourself. Find out what you’re feeling and what you now want your life to be. You have some tough decisions to make and you want them to be grounded in logic.

Remind Yourself Wants Important to You

I know this is tough, but you need to ask yourself what’s meaningful beyond your marriage. Maybe you have children. Maybe it’s other family or a church. Life does exist beyond the scope of your marriage. That can be difficult to realize, I know. This woman has probably been your life. But, there are other things going on in the world.

If you have a wife caught cheating, it is going to take time to recover. If you both decide you want to save your marriage, it’s going to take time to repair the damage that’s been done. Allow your relationship to breathe a little here. Find out where you are and how you got here. Living in the heart of a betrayal is not a place you want to be. You’re going to survive, and quite possibly be the better for it.
