Why so many green leafy vegetables? Domestic pets should be getting their carbohydrate in a similar manner and balance to their wild ancestors. That means feeding fresh, raw (non starchy-low glycemic) vegetables (and some fruit). The green vegetables contain only small amounts of starch and some simple sugars. More importantly they are chock full of enzymes, nutraceuticals, phytochemicals, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.The National Cancer Institute, in its booklet Diet, Nutrition, & Cancer Prevention: A Guide to Food Choices, states that 35 percent of cancer deaths may be related to diet. The booklet states: Diets rich in beta-carotene (the plant form of vitamin A) and vitamin C may reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Where can I find the current prices of vegetables? Depending on the type of vegetable, there are several different sources of prices. The prices of regulated, processed (i.e. frozen) vegetables are set in negotiations with the growers’ associations and the processors.

Are the mono and diglycerides made from vegetables (plants) or animal sources? Do you use animal products besides milk derived ingredients in your breads? If so, what is the name of the product that you use. Generally, we do not use any other animal products besides those ingredients derived from milk. However, you will find eggs in a few of our items. I just bought some land - what types of vegetables can I grow? There is no quick answer to this question, as there are many options. The most common limitations are soil type, climate, plant hardiness, drainage, access to irrigation and regulation (quotas). You need to ask yourself the following questions about any potential crop: What are the crop’s cultural requirements? Certain crops are easier to grow than others, e.g. more cold hardy, fewer pests and diseases.Use a wire blanching basket and covered saucepan, or fit a wire basket into a large kettle with fitted lid. Use one gallon of water per pound of prepared vegetable. Put vegetable in blanching basket and lower it into vigorously boiling water. Place lid on blancher and start counting blanching time as soon as the water returns to a boil. (The water should return to boiling within 1 minute, or you are using too much vegetable for the amount of water). Keep heat high for total blanching time.Use a wire blanching basket and covered saucepan, or fit a wire basket into a large kettle with fitted lid.
