Make Productivity Count – There Are No Time Machines

There is only one measurement where we are all equal, and that is in the amount of time each of us is given per day. It’s the same 24 hours we all get to invest in whatever manner we think is best. We’ve all been reminded to “work smart” instead of “working hard”, but few understand the difference. Our personal strategies of time management may vary, but we can agree that everyone should be constantly looking for ways to improve their individual performance.

PROCRASTINATION. We can easily point to ourselves for examples. Is there anything you have ever “put off until tomorrow” that you later regretted not doing? Perhaps it was an exercise program or some other regimen, such as a plan to quit smoking. What about your daily business plan?

We need self-discipline. This is really something that is non-negotiable in the work force, whether we are independent of have superiors we report to. If we are in fact responsible for ourselves, we require a disciplined mindset and variations of energy to be able to succeed and fulfill our goals.

INABILITY TO SAY “NO”. Since our time is limited and we adjust to the schedule of availability of many of our potential customers, sometimes we are forced to say “no” to other requests so we can stay focused on our individual mission. Another area that we also have to have the confidence to say “no” is when a customer is asking for major concessions, either in price or additional services, or both.

PERSONAL DISORGANIZATION. We work on a daily basis with a large number of variables, and often have to change our own mindset many times a day as we communicate directly with a wide range of home buyers and builders. Take a look at your own systems that are being utilized in your car and office, and see if there might be a better way to get organized to save time and increase your income.

ATTEMPTING TOO MUCH. Because of the nature and definition of our business combined with the belief that nearly everyone is a potential customer, it is easy to become overwhelmed by trying to do too much! Creating your daily and weekly game plan in writing will help you maintain control of your time and keep you aiming for the target.

Goal setting is vital to our business growth and development. Without written goals there are no objectives. Clearly understanding the importance of this will lead you to the path of success. Daily review of your goals and objectives will keep you focused. We are repeatedly interrupted and are bombarded with distractions each day and must stay focused.

Time truly is our most precious commodity. What we choose to do with it is an individual choice and decision. We function daily in a world of reward for performance. Managing our time effectively by eliminating the time wasters can mean the difference between mediocrity and magnificence!
