It has become an industry standard in our consumer society to offer flowers and small gifts at holidays and birthdays. This practice dates back many years- and will continue as the social standards of many nations put an emphasis on flowers as the most common gift of all time. But getting a hold of these gifts, as consumers find, isn’t always easy.
Internet florists are a new breed of floral agents that are able to ship gifts long distances over night. Products arrive just as fresh as they would in the actual floral shops, but of course there is much more convenience and the peace of mind that one only has to go online to order. Be wary of scams and fraudulent stores, however, as the Internet isn’t always a trusted resource.
If one is looking for a discount, or doesn’t have access to the Internet, browsing published resources is a good idea. Florists attract business in many ways, and newspapers or classifieds is one such means of reaching consumers. Most printed publications also include special pricing or offers that other customers won’t get- proving that keeping that subscription to the newspaper might just pay for itself.
If money is an issue, then one is going to need to compare the price of floral services to other local shops. Sadly this isn’t viable for those who live in sparse locations that don’t have but one or two florists shops- if even one at all. In such a situation, one should keep in mind that the Internet is always a viable solution, or at the very least a little travel time is all that is required for a second opinion.
Most general stores are now stocking flowers as well, and although this isn’t a florist, it can still be a resort for those who don’t have access to better options. General stores such as Wal-Mart commonly stock a plethora of different flower arrangements. On special occasions such as holidays, expect much more selection and miniature gifts just like a real florist would create. The quality may be less, but the expense is often cheaper in the long run.
Local floral opportunities are sometimes easier to find than one would think- simply go to a Farmer’s Market or visit a local neighbor to see if they have anything interesting growing in their flower garden. This can make the experience more enjoyable, since the gift would be custom acquired, more fresh, and shows the recipient that they are worth more than just a quick order in a store or Internet website.
Final Thoughts
Getting gifts and flowers shouldn’t have to be such a pain- and it doesn’t have to be for those who are gifted in finding floral options online and through alternative means. If nothing seems to work, ask friends and family members where they get their flowers and follow suit.
