Bonsai ficus trees are one of the easiest to keep, due to them requiring little maintenance, and in looks are unlike any other type of tree. Because of this a bonsai ficus is the ideal tree for beginners.
Species Worth Trying.
You will find growing a bonsai ficus can be a very enjoyable and simple task, as long as you pay regular attention to the proper care of it, this way you will start to learn about the basics of caring and growth as it develops. There are 3 worth trying initially, and they are the weeping ficus, the narrow leaved ficus, and the dwarf ficus.
Temperature And Humidity Range.
There are over 600 species of ficus, a great many of them have thick waxy type leaves that allows the plant to survive well in very dry air. Your bonsai ficus is very tolerent to a range of humidity levels. best grown indoors, as they require temperatures of a minimum 55 F, though can be kept outdoors during the summer where the temperature day or night does not fall below 55 F.
Ficus And Propagation.
Propagation. One of the easiest plants to root from cuttings, although the specifics for maximum success vary with species, its always worth sticking cuttings from your bonsai ficus into good soil, where they will root pretty quickly, unless you are already overrun with baby ficus.
Roots Of Ficus.
A lot of ficus will naturally grow banyan roots, so this feature is used often with the styling of bonsai ficus with the air root and the root over the rock type styles, using superthrive, on a monthly basis will help in the forming of the banyan roots.
Growing Seeds from Ficus.
Ficus can be grown from seeds, and you can add to your collection of bonsai ficus using this method, but they require heat and humidity, and will easily succumb to mold.
Watering Ficus Plants.
The watering of your bonsai ficus is easy, ficus do like dry periods in between any watering, allow the soil to dry then water, just feel the soil on a regular basis. You may find during autumn and winter especially that it may start dropping leaves or, start to turn yellow, if this happens then stop watering, as it is likely being over watered.
Last Thoughts.
